audrey kawasaki makes paintings with almost a magical touch, her pieces look so subtle and beautiful, that it almost puts in a feeling of romance. well, for me it does, it makes me think of giving a painting of hers to a special someone, if i had one, and to write my own little review of how the painting's beauty is an artistic form and expression of the feelings i'd have for that person, but since i don't have anyone to do all that for, just look through her work and enjoy. mind you, the paintings do have some creatures in them, so sue me, i have a funny way of looking at beauty.

well, the world press photo competition has compiled the list of 2006’s best photographs and this much is certain: you will never find a more comprehensive collection of public executions, infantile corpses, scalded faces, and oblivious teenagers until another year of all that shit happening somewhere not in america passes by and we learn about it via a photo contest.

pes, the most prolific stop-motion animator since harryhausen, has just wrapped his latest masterpiece. i’ve never heard of the shoe compant, but does that matter? with advertising like this, they’re sure to be a success. i mean, seriously, can you think of a company that spent a ton of cash on their advertisements and then went belly up? never happens!

i know you've probably been hit with this video of how we'll intereact with computers in the future so many times, it's not even funny anymore (as it was intended to be.) but have any of you stopped to consider that the music you hear during the demostartion is also from the future? that's right, apparently, in the year 2050, the tesh wins.

i know my colleague stefan loves it when designers take on the mundane, work-horse objects of our daily lives and spruce them up. the blending of practicality, usability, and beauty: tom dixon staplers and the like. I, however, clap the loudest when i come across designers who are developing objects that do nothing more than look lovely.
with that in mind, check this out.

i love this kind of thing... the art academy in the netherlands wanted a fresh look but they weren't going to tear down their boring building only to rebuild, they just didn't have the money. so they faked it and built a surface facade that looks amazing! it was just the smart thing to do. i love this kind of thing, did i say that already?
